1964 – 2023

Obituary – Chief Mrs Esther Damishi Sango, a Director of Books2Africa Nigeria and wife of Nigeria’s Former Minister of Sports, Hon Damishi Sango, has passed on to glory at the age of 59.

She died peacefully in her sleep on Friday 13th January 2023 in the afternoon at the family residence in Danwal, Ganawuri, Plateau State in Nigeria.

Her husband Hon D.T. Sango said: “The entire family is saddened by the sudden loss of my beloved wife who has been and will continue to be a symbol of faith, love and leadership for us all. As we mourn her, we are humbled by the lives she touched and are comforted knowing she now rests with the Lord”.

Her children, who are trustees of the Damishi and Esther Sango Foundation said: “Mama will be greatly missed. She will continue to live in us and in the work of the foundation which she established before her demise”.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on the foundation’s website https://sangofoundation.com/ where friends and well-wishers can also send tributes to a woman of exemplary faith and compassion, who many consider a dear mother.

Dear Aunty, As we say our good byes and commit you back to the Father, we know it’s but for a moment. This is what comforts me the most at times like this. Otherwise this is just a hard pill to swallow. I’ll always remember your calm mien and that aura was around you all the time. You always appeared undisturbed by any circumstance. It felt easy being around you, perhaps I can call it a sense of peace. Your healing testimonies from previous years still encourage me till today that you’re no longer here. That’s definitely a legacy. Rest in peace with our Lord Ma, till we meet again at Jesus feet. Good night!

For her, there was no middle road. She either took you, or she never met you at all. She loved everyone in the best way possible. If she meets you once, you have become a son to her. She will remember as many details as possible. Months later, she would ask you about that small thing you mentioned to her casually. She was called “Mama,” not just because it was a tradition but because she was truly a caring woman. She would solve your need no matter how little, and she would pay attention to your needs even to the point of embarrassment. Her smiles, which are evident in so many of her photos, were not just for the camera; it was something she wore every day. She had a smile for everyone. Giving was her lifestyle. There were no ends to her gifts. I will miss her. It is painful that she is gone, but we are the lucky ones, we knew her on a personal level. We encountered a woman whose heart was too big for a single family, she shared it with many others.

Evidently, mom was an instrument in God’s hand. I remember when my dad passed away she visited us and even brought cartons of water to support us despite the fake rumours going round that it was Covid that kill my dad, but void of the rumours she still showed up, I was truly moved by that act of kindness because in that moment a lot of people neglected us. She was truly a woman after God’s heart, a loving, rare, kind and peaceful soul. May she rest well with the Lord and I pray for God’s Strength and Grace to carry the entire family through this difficult time. May Her soul Rest In Peace.🙏🏾 🙏🏾

Mama Mama I in shock when I heard of your ascension to the heavenly, for I thought you would still spend more time here with us. Thank you for being a good wife, mother, sister and friend. Your pure soulful smile dissolves the anger in any person, now heaven gets to enjoy that. Am not the one that determines who goes to even but I believe that by the requirements established in the bible that you possess them all. We love you even after death. Rest well Mama. Love you.

Little wonder the passing away of a child of God is termed as a glorious home call! Agine, although in our human perception your departure was sudden and also devastating, your antecedents and the life you lived assure us that you are now resting with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We were optimistic that you were waxing stronger and better in health but the Lord all along had the bigger picture. What more can we say but to accept His will and trust God amidst our myopia and raging emotions? Our prayer is for fortitude for the immediate family and us all to bear this irreparable loss. May the Holy Spirit work best in healing our hearts. Agine, rest peacefully in the bosom of our Lord till we meet to part no more! – Hon. Justice D. G. Mann, Chief Judge, Plateau State.
